Looking Ahead to Saturday’s Fireworks

In this installment of my betting blog I preview the Breeder’s Cup.

Gambling Advice- Breeder’s Cup

The 5th November is looming up on us once more and, apart from the traditional displays, the main fireworks will be taking place over the pond. I am of course talking about the Breeder’s Cup race meeting that takes place at Churchill Downs in Louisville Kentucky. This is the traditional end of year jamboree that mixes the best of the American horses against the best of the Europeans; even though it is extremely difficult for the European horses to win due to the long season that they have already had, I fancy a couple of big bets on Eurpoean horses who will run well at rewarding odds.

Big Bet 1- Byword

Looking at the Mile Race, European horses have a solid record in this race. Goldikova is going for her 4th win in the race, but I think we have a chance of getting her beat this year. Byword looks to be a very solid each way alternative at around the 8/1 mark  in a race in which the American horses do not look world beaters. Last year Byword won The Prince of Wales Stakes at Royal Ascot in great style and this season has continued the winning streak with group wins at Chantilly and most recently Longchamp at the Arc meeting when he defeated Cirrus des Aigles who subsequently went on to win the Champion Stakes at Ascot. My one reservation would be that Byword’s best distance is 1.2 miles, but this horse will be suited by the fast pace that these races are traditionally run at. I can see Byword doing all its best work at the business end of the race under a cool ride from the top class Maxine Guyon.

Big Bet 2- Flat Out

The next spot of gambling advice centres on the Classic which is the richest race on the card. I think we have another favourite that can be taken on in the shape of Uncle Mo. Last year Uncle Mo won at this meeting by taking the Juvenile in tremendous style travelling strongly just behind the leader and then showing an impressive burst of speed to pull away from his rivals. This is Uncle Mo’s first try at 1.2 miles and for a horse with speed to burn there must extreme stamina doubts. I am also keen to take on So You Think; this horse has had an extremely hard season running in all the top class races in Europe in some terrific tussles, but I think these hard races could catch up with him. With my reservations about 2 out of the front 4 in the market I think we could have a very solid each way bet on the rapidly improving Flat Out at around the 6/1 mark. Last time out this horse won the grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup in scintillating style in muddy conditions and, if the anticipated rain arrives, I can see this horse running a huge race.

All in all it should be a great night’s racing and hopefully we will be showing a nice profit by the end of the evening or at least enough to buy a few beers.

Be lucky and check back for new posts on this betting blog each week.
