STAR SPORTS BUYS PITCH AT CHELTENHAM
Star Sports today announces the purchase of Pitch 3 in Tattersalls at Cheltenham Racecourse, their second pitch following the deal secured in 2010 to enter the betting ring at Royal Ascot.
The high profile Pitch 3 in Tattersalls was bought from Jack Bevan and the Brighton-based firm will be standing at their first ever Cheltenham Festival in March, ready to do battle with the legions of punters.
Star Sports, which rebranded from Star Racing in 2009, has seen success and industry plaudits with its highly personalised service. The purchases of fellow independent bookmakers Vickers Credit Ltd, Waldron Racing Ltd and Turner & Kendrick Ltd have combined to see the largest independent bookmaker in the country scale new heights.
The company’s rise to prominence was recently recognised by leading industry publication Betview, where it is one of three finalists for the Betview 2012 Awards Marketing Campaign of the Year, along with Paddy Power and William Hill.
Ben Keith, Managing Director of Star Sports, said:
“Buying a pitch like number 3 at Cheltenham has far more meaning to myself and Star than just being a financial transaction. It is a coming of age and the realisation of a life’s dream and ambition.
“The betting ring at Cheltenham has an energy like no other. You can feel it breathing all over you, like a dragon, sucking you into its lair. It symbolises the battle of punter and bookmaker and, as such, has a nostalgia you can taste in your mouth as thickly and clearly as blood.
“To bet on such a pitch, and to do battle each day with the biggest and bravest punters the festival has to offer, will not only be exciting and character-building, it will be a huge honour. We look forward to seeing you there – and don’t worry, you won’t miss us!”
