The Most Entertaining Page on Oddschecker

When looking to laugh or cheer yourself up, one might nip down the pub to listen to his moronic mates discussing the latest football stories with the authority of Thatcher in her pomp, with no regard to the possibility of what they are bleating out is complete nonsense.

If this is not an option, due to it just being too frustrating by now, you may turn to the box as your source of entertainment. However, if you consider Michael Macintyre with his stupid hair and annoying voice your worst nightmare then a movie might be a better option. That said when was the last time you turned on Sky Movies and there was a film just starting that you hadn’t seen or actually wanted to?! Now that is about 200/1 at the least.

Seeing as all these options look non-starters don’t panic or fall back into depression; I am here to provide plenty of laughs and you don’t even have to look at my stupid hair or listen to my funny voice!

Simply get the laptop out and navigate your way to the punters PA oddschecker.com. Once arriving at this world of wonderful prices click on football and then football specials. Half way down you will find “next permanent England Manager.” I warn you though, brace yourself before you do so – this is one of the funniest things you will ever see.

Right, go on then. What were your favourites? Nigel Addkins at 33/1 is great… can you imagine honestly, if you asked Nigel himself, what price do you think he would come out with… 500/1? Please don’t get me wrong – he has done a fantastic job at Southampton, as have many of the candidates I’m coming on to, but their prices are just absolutely ridiculous.

Steve Coppell at 25/1 is an absolute gem. Can anyone honestly see him ever being England manager – I mean when was the last time he had a job in football! My other favourite is Chris Powell at 40/1. Once again he is doing a great job at Charlton but you would have to be on drugs to take the 40′s on offer. Admittedly they are my top three but there are plenty of others crackers in that list.

Rafa Benitez is 12/1. Can anyone explain that to me? How on earth is he 12′s? 50s would be tight. Nigel Clough is 100/1. What would you give to lay that? A limb of some sort! Brian has more chance of getting the job and sadly we all know that’s not going to happen. Finally, before I return to normality, Glenn Hoddle is 33/1; what price the double with Tammy Grey-Thompson as his assistant!

However, once picking the comedy entrants out, the three that we were left discussing at length were Harry Redknapp, Stuart Pearce and Roy Hodgson. The notion that Pearce is being groomed by the FA and Capello cannot be discarded; also he meets the ever rumoured main criteria, being English. At 14/1 he would have to represent the value bet but I can’t see it personally.

Roy Hodgson is as short as 4/1 for the England job. Now I’ve seen some mental prices in my time but can you see the great British public allowing a failed Liverpool manager now at West Brom leading us into battle? The answer is no… obviously! What is important to remember is this is England, home of the most notorious Press in the world. The FA don’t pick the manager, the public do, along with all the campaigns in The Sun. Sadly we both know this is true – so, rather than moan about it, we need to use it to our financial advantage.

The obvious candidate and favourite is Harry Redknapp; the only snag is that he is due to go for a little holiday and her majesty will be providing the accommodation! Should Harry manage to worm his way out of going to jail the 2/1 with one bookmaker is enormous. All the people who say he wouldn’t go or he couldn’t leave Spurs are officially mental. This is the most unloyal manager in the history of the game. Who goes to Pompey and then Southampton, no wait and back to Pompey?! I bet he is familiar with a next manager market! He has taken Spurs as far as he can and the money England will offer him will see his eyes light up like Blackpool Tower.

It’s quite unusual tipping up a 2/1 shot who couldn’t make his first day on £5 million a year because he was behind bars! Incidentally what price Kevin Bond steers this ship till Harry gets early release? Ok now I am being facetious!
