6 Nations Preview

Can’t believe it is that time of year again already – 6 Nations actions hits the screens this weekend and we should be in for a really close competition this year with 4 teams showing realistic chances of stealing the title. So how do the main contenders shape up?

France 6/4 favourite
Wales 3/1
England 4/1
Ireland 9/2
Scotland 33/1
Italy 200/1

Would happily be taking on the World Cup finalists at the 6/4 and feel that the Welsh team could have given them a much better run for their money in the World cup semi-final had the match played out a little bit differently and Sam Warburton not received the controversial red card. Alain Rollands decision seems to have affected the Six Nations Market and Wales should really be joint favourites along with Les Bleus.

The English team are a little bit of an unknown and unpredictable quantity at the moment with a change in shape to the squad. Only this weekend’s Calcutta Cup clash at Murrayfield will prove what is in store for the next 2 months for Stuart Lancaster and his young team.

The Irish are also a little bit of a hit and miss side at the moment. An impressive win over Australia in the pool stages of the World Cup was not backed up later in the competition although shows that the squad does possess some timeless class. The loss of Brian O’Driscoll from the team could prove too crucial in this year’s Six Nations Campaign however.

Sadly I feel that Scotland and Italy will prove to be also runs for this year’s Six Nations. However as always would love to be proved wrong having personally been at the Flaminio Stadio to witness the French Suffer a momentous defeat last year to the Italians.

Only big bets for me at this stage of the competition are a lay of France at 6/4 and a back of over 42 points in the France Italy game on the Saturday. Should be plenty of action in the following weeks based on what unfurls this weekend.
