Tommy’s Greyhound Betting Blog

This week’s greyhound betting blog concentrates on The Golden Jacket Final and supporting card at Crayford on Saturday.

This competition over the eight bend trip at Crayford of 714 meters isn’t as demanding as other tracks’ eight bend trips; nevertheless you need a greyhound that has a bit of early pace but also stays, as there is always scrimmaging at the first bend and your chance could be gone if you get a bad bump.

This was the case with antepost favourite Express Trend in the semi-final as she missed her break from trap five which saw her forced in to trouble at the first bend. Her chance of winning the race was over at that point, but ongoing trouble at the third, fifth, sixth and seventh bend left her with no chance to qualify.

With the well fancied Express Trend out of the final it looks wide open with bookmakers going 3/1 the field. I’m going to have a big bet on Wise Signal. This greyhound was originally favourite to win his semi-final but drifted on track and went off second favourite. Any supporters of his would have been happy going round the first bend as he went round prominent and, although not hitting the front till the seventh bend, never really looked in any danger of getting beat!

After looking at the supporting card there is only one greyhound that catches my eye, which is Buglys Billie in the marathon. This bitch contested in the Golden Jacket over 714 meters but found the eight bend trip there too short, so the step up to their ten bend trip over 874 meters will be more up her street! I can’t see her being an attractive price. I think she is banker material!
