Good to be back in the saddle this week after a period on the sidelines with a bad back. Itching to get back in the winners enclosure now and on Saturday I have five booked rides at Haydock.
Was a good winner here back in June of a class 3 handicap and has been running at a higher level since. I’ve only ridden him once before – that was in the Victoria Cup at Ascot and he’ll probably need to be at his best to win this off his current mark and we wouldn’t want to see much more rain.
Has been an absolute star for trainer Dean Ivory but he needs to bounce back to form after finishing last of five in Listed company at York last time out. He can still get competitive as he’s been proving on the all-weather but he’s up against some bang in form rivals here including Tarboosh who bids for a four-timer.
DARK POWER (3.50pm)
He’s still quite lightly raced and could have good place chances here. He was by no means disgraced when finishing 8th in the Great St Wilfrid at Ripon. He gave me three wins last season and he’s always liked a bit of cut in the ground.
GREAT HALL (4.25pm)
This looks very competitive and my fella needs to show a bit more sparkle. He hasn’t shown much since winning at Ripon in the spring but this is his first start since then with some give in the ground and hopefully that will see an improved effort.
Was only fourth of six here last time out when the ground might well have been too testing. Is dropping down the weights and that will help, together with hopefully the first time visor. This does look very competitive though.
