BEN’S BLOG: ‘Are you a bit too posh or pompous to be questioned…?’

Published On July 7, 2017 | Ben Keith

ben_keith_team-150x150 Much has been said about Tom Kerr’s article, in today’s Racing Post. And most of it has been personal, nasty and unnecessary. In my view, the Racing Establishment has shown it’s true colours: If you’re not born into a posh racing family or you haven’t been a jockey; shut up and just do what we say (and neverrrrr question us!!).

Mr Kerr isn’t even saying that it should be fully banned. He’s saying it should be allowed, but for safety and steering purposes only. Not that many who chucked their vitriol, probably read that far…

I have never ridden a horse and don’t intend to, so (for once) I have no opinion on the matter. However, lots of qualified people have come out and said he’s talking rubbish. FINE. But why the personal criticism? I for one, hope this is the start of much more debate from The Racing Post. Let’s ruffle the feathers of a few stuffy trainers and jockeys, as from what I can see, none of them would last 5 minutes of questioning in a Grown-Up sport! OR DO THEY THINK THEY’RE A BIT TOO SPECIAL FOR THAT..??
