ESP, I can really get with you…

I can’t remember if I was seven, or if I was eight, or if the first album I
bought was Michael Jackson’s Bad, or if it might actually have been ESP by
the Bee Gees.

It was, of course, on a cassette. And you know how when you’d listened to a
tape a thousand times the black cord started coming out the bottom of it and
you had to get a pencil and lace it back in again? Well, I had to do that
over and over again with ESP.

Robin Gibb has died. I didn’t think that people like Robin Gibb could die.
Although behind closed doors it’s sad to say that the ‘Bee Gees family’
didn’t quite have the most serene of personal lives, he was always so happy
on screen that I thought he would just go on forever. Making comeback tours
‘one last time’ and generally just smiling nicely, like he lives on a cloud,
when appearing on stuff like Strictly Come Dancing every now and then.

Apparently, up to near the end, he was talking about ‘the next tour’ and in
his final moments he spoke of his late twin-brother Maurice and of how he
couldn’t believe he’d gone.

There has been talk of Robin Gibb being knighted posthumously. As a gesture
of respect and goodwill, posthumously, I shall decree the Not Staff monicur
on him. Robin Gibb = Not Staff. RIP.

PS: I’ve stuck up a Youtube box of ‘You Win Again’. My favourite Bee Gees
song. B x
