STAR PREVIEW: Salford City v Shrewsbury Town

The FA Cup is a tournament of stories and there are few better than a repay between Salford and Shrewsbury tonight. Salford City, owned by Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes (along with the businessman Peter Lim) have earned a replay against Shrewsbury on home turf in front of the TV cameras.

Salford are flying on the pitch as well, with Adam Rooney leading the line since his move from Aberdeen. A hat-trick in Saturday’s 4-0 win over Aldershot made it 15 goals for the striker and they’re unbeaten since August, with no defeats in their last 15 games.

This form gives them a realistic chance of taking the game to Shrewsbury and pulling off an upset once again, although the replacement of Dave Askey with Danny Coyne has improved the fortunes of the visitors a bit since. Their win against Rochdale was a much-needed boost and winning their EFL Cup tie against Crewe cannot have been the worst thing for them in terms of timing.

This should be a tight game with home advantage hopefully helping to cancel out Shrewsbury’s improvement and there wasn’t much between the two sides in the reverse fixture despite the two-tier league difference between the pairing.

HEAD TO HEAD RECORD
(Maximum 10 matches)
NOV 2018 FA CUP Shrewsbury 1-1 Salford

Salford’s improvement has been based a lot on their attack and in only one of their last 22 fixtures have they failed to score, and both teams have scored in their last 10. Shrewsbury have seen both teams score in their last four, so that could well be the bet.
