Tommy’s Greyhound Review

This week’s Greyhound Blog previews the William Hill Oaks final at Wimbledon on Thursday night over 480 meters. Last year it was won in impressive style by Charlie Lister’s Silverview Perky. Unfortunately for Charlie he hasn’t got a representative this year but there are some very fast bitches in the race none the less.

Trap 1 Droopys Loner: This greyhound has been a credit to trainer Dean Childs in the last 12 months; she got to this year’s Derby semi-final stage, won the William Hill Classic at Sunderland and also contested last year’s Oaks final. Currently 11/8.

Trap 2 Forest Mollie: This greyhound is trained by K Hutton. This bitch has done well to get to the final but will need to step up considerably to trouble the main market principals to win on Thursday night. Currently 20/1.

Trap 3 Aero Scramble: This is the less fancied of the two Dean Child runners in the final. She was 5 ½ lengths behind Droopys Loner in their semi-final but did manage to pick the latter up in the first round so connections will be hoping for the same in the final. Currently 25/1.

Trap 4 Lemon Velvet: This bitch trained by A Mcpherson was a surprise 8/1 winner of her semi-final when she beat Droopys Hope in 28.42 which was the fast of the two semis. Currently 9/2.

Trap 5 Skate On: Trained by E Mcnair this greyhound is blessed with a lot of early pace and will have to use it to good effect as she has got a tough draw to overcome being a railer. Currently 7/1.

Trap 6 Droopys Hope: This bitch is defiantly the more fancied one from the Mcnair kennels. She has early pace but is also a strong runner so if leading she will be very hard to beat. Already has the beating of Droopys Loner when picking her up on the run-in when they met here on St Leger final night a couple of weeks ago. I think that she is too big at 2/1 so I would rather back her than bet Droopys Loner at 11/8.

Selection: Droopys Hope is my idea of value and also the most likely winner in a clean run race.
