Congratulations James: Betting Shop Manager Of The Year!

⭕ Many congratulations to James Maloney – he is the 2022 Racing Post/SIS Betting Shop Manager Of The Year !!

James, manager of Star Sports Mayfair, was announced the national winner at the prestigious event hosted at The Carlton Tower Hotel in London’s West End on Monday 7 November.

HOW THE RACING POST REPORTED THE AWARD CEREMONY

After receiving the award James said: “It’s just sinking in now, slowly but surely! I’ve had hundreds of people come up and congratulate me – It’s just one handshake after the other! But yeah, it’s sinking in now and I feel amazing.

“Completely unexpected in my mind. I knew I was a runner, but to be actually crowned number one is something else – I only realised when the entire table erupted! I didn’t quite figure it out until everyone went mental – it’s me!

“I’ll have a few beers to calm the nerves down and then yeah – back to work I guess! There’s still a few interviews to be done I would imagine, but apart from that that’s it.”

Ben Keith owner of Star Sports said: “It’s fully deserved! James is a true professional. It’s a pleasure to work with him and empires are built by being lucky enough to employ people like him!”.

James will be invited to several key racing and betting events during his year as champion.

Russ Candler, Managing Director of Star Sports said: “He’s the most deserving winner and we couldn’t be any prouder than we are at the moment. We will most definitely be celebrating later on!”.

Matt Davies, Head of Retail said: “This is absolutely fantastic for Star, but also for James and individually I couldn’t be prouder of him. This is a process that we set out many, many months ago and I’m really proud of the whole team – for all of those that entered and made the final stages.

“James is obviously the outright winner, but this has been a team effort with lots of people involved and I’m proud of everybody! Six years ago, when Ben said we’d like to grow the estate – I made a point of hiring the best managers in the game. James was the first manager I hired. It’s a great day!”
