Miles 8/11 to be next Welsh First Minister

Jeremy Miles is the odds-on favourite with Star Sports to replace Vaughan Gething as Welsh First Minister following his resignation just four months into the job.

Following his public resignation from the Welsh Cabinet this morning whilst divulging his lack of faith in Gething, Miles is odds-on at 8/11 to man the helm as the next Welsh First Minister.

In behind Miles in the market is Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Eluned Morgan (3/1), and Ken Skates (5/1) who has served as Cabinet Secretary for North Wales and Transport since March this year.

William Kedjanyi, Political Betting Analyst at Star Sports, said: “After just four months in office as the Welsh First Minister, Vaughan Gething’s resignation has sparked speculation on his replacement, and Jeremy Miles looks the likeliest candidate.

“Having stepped down himself from his position in the Welsh Cabinet after refusing to back Gething and asking for his resignation, Miles has been touted at 8/11 to return and assume the vacancy for the top job.

“Eluned Morgan and Ken Stakes look strong candidates at 3/1 and 5/1 respectively, but don’t seem to have the same pull in the market as odds-on favourite Miles.”
