STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Fri: Aston Villa v Tottenham

Much of the Premier League season has been finished for a long time – Liverpool’s title victory was a foregone conclusion for much of the season and there wasn’t even a relegation battle – but the battle for a crucial Champions League spot continues and Aston Villa could have every chance of qualification, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.

Villa are sixth behind Chelsea on goal difference with two games to go, but the footballing gods, on paper at least, have smiled on them as they face Tottenham at home and Manchester United at Old Trafford to finish the season. Tottenham, who have been dreadful domestically all season, will have all eyes on next week’s Europa League final against United, who will be giving everything there before they face Villa next Sunday.

Ange Postecoglou made eight changes to the side that lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace last weekend and it would be a surprise if he didn’t do the same again given what’s at stake, leaving Villa facing a second-string side for a team that has one win – against Southampton – in their last ten league matches.

Villa have been outstanding in 2025, letting themselves down against Palace in the FA Cup semi-final but otherwise being near flawless domestically and performing with great credit against PSG in the Champions League, especially when nearly staging an incredible comeback at Villa Park.

⭐️ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐️

Unai Emery’s men have won eight of their last ten league games, including successes against Chelsea, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, and have the best points return and underlying data since the March international break. Bar a couple of small absences – Midfielder Jacob Ramsey serves a one-match suspension, and Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford is out with a hamstring injury – Emery has a fully fit squad to choose from with the likes of Ollie Watkins and Marcus Asencio leading the line and John McGinn to drive the midfield along with Morgan Rogers.

All this makes a price of just ? with starsports.bet understandable, and the best betting strategy might be to keep it simple and back Villa to pass a one-goal handicap, which they are more than capable of. Elsewhere in the battle for European football, Chelsea face a Manchester United side in a very similar matchup, and the Blues should have more than enough to put away a side who will be looking to next week’s clash – perhaps even more important for them than Spurs given the financial implications of a season without European football.

Double both with starsports.bet at just under evens, which is more than generous given the situations both teams find themselves in.
