The road to America begins for many European teams as more World Cup qualifying groups get underway, and both Danish and Scottish fans will have realistic dreams of making next year’s expanded tournament, writes WILLIAM KEDJANYI.

Danish fans have done plenty of travelling in recent times – The Red and Whites have successfully qualified for five of the last seven World Cups including the last two, and nine of the previous 11 European Championships – and they’ll be hopeful of reaching the USA too.

Scotland have improved under Steve Clarke’s guidance with appearances at the Euros in 2020 and 2024, although a group stage exit at Euro 2024 was a disappointment considering the form they carried during qualifying, including a 2-0 defeat of Spain.
