GEORGE BOUGHEY: Weekend Preview

It’s been a tough morning in the yard with the news that Rosy Affair misses British Champions Day after picking up a bruised foot, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.

We supplemented her for £40,000 on Monday, so it’s hugely frustrating for both her and her owner Shapoor Mistry.

She’s been an exciting filly to train, and the plan will be to give her a break now and have her back next year when she should make up into a very smart sprinter.

SATURDAY

CATTERICK

FOURONEOHFEVER – 11.56am Catterick

He’s not quite the force of old but he needed the run last time and drops in grade here, which should help. He’s a big horse, but funnily enough should be well suited to a track like Catterick. You wouldn’t have seen him running in a 0–85 in the past, so this is a definite opportunity. He’s drawn wide but we’ll roll forward, and with five pounds being claimed by Tommie Jakes, hopefully things can fall right for him.

SATURDAY

ASCOT

OLIVER SHOW – 4.40pm Ascot

He looks brilliant in his coat and has really come forward since his last run. The ground was too fast for him at Royal Ascot, and things didn’t go to plan at Newcastle where Billy [Loughnane] never got a run and had to finish on the bridle. He’s got a good draw, right next to the second favourite, and I think he’s got a very good chance if things fall our way.

SATURDAY

WOLVERHAMPTON

CAMZARA – 6.30pm Wolverhampton

If you can forgive her Ffos Las run – and I’m not convinced she stayed there – then her novice form reads well. Victoria Harbour, who just finished ahead of her at Wetherby, is now a Listed race winner, so the form has worked out well. She’s been ridden to finish in her races so far, and although she’s returning after a break, I’m hopeful she can take a step forward.

George’s Champions Day picks…

QEII Stakes – 3.25pm Ascot

I like Rosallion. He’s a great each-way bet at around 5/1, especially if he’s a little closer to the pace this time. The ground should be perfect, and I think he’ll be involved in the finish.

Champion Stakes – 4.05pm Ascot

Calandagan loves Ascot, is a reliable Group 1 performer and takes his racing really well. It’s a very strong renewal as ever, but he’s the one I’d want on my side.

GEORGE’S BEST CHANCE

My best chance of the weekend would be Oliver Show. He’s in great order, has a good draw, and this looks a really nice race for him to finish his British turf campaign on a high.
