WEAR-TYNE DERBY

STAR FOOTBALL PREVIEW Sun: Sunderland v Newcastle

For the first time in a league fixture since 2016, arch-rivals Sunderland and Newcastle United lock horns at the Stadium of Light on Sunday afternoon, writes JOE CITRONE.

A victory for Sunderland here could take them as high as sixth-place in the Premier League, but let’s be honest, that’s not going to be on their minds coming into this one. It’s all about the bragging rights against Newcastle.

In the league, Sunderland have an excellent record against Newcastle in their most recent fixtures, with the Black Cats winning every match between 2013 and 2016.

They did lose in their most recent encounter with their old enemy, which came in the FA at the beginning of last year, but will be hoping to keep their impressive league form against Newcastle going when they do battle with them once again on Sunday.

⭐️ STARSPORTS.BET MATCH MARKETS ⭐️

As things stand, Newcastle sit just one point behind Sunderland in the Premier League table, and would relish the opportunity to leapfrog their arch rivals with a win on Sunday.

The Toon Army were left frustrated in midweek when a late goal from Alejandro Grimaldo denied them victory against Leverkusen in the Champions League.

All eyes will be on this Wear-Tyne Derby now, though, with the bragging rights on the line on Sunday afternoon.

As for selections for this one, when it comes to a derby, especially one as feisty as this one, you have to assume this will be a match filled with ill-discipline. At 8/5 with starsports.bet, I like the look of Bruno Guimaraes to be carded, who averages 1.8 fouls per 90 minutes.

In terms of how this will play out, I always feel these games are likely to be cagey and tense, and that’s why I have backed a draw at 23/10.
