STAR GOLF PREVIEW: 2026 Houston Open

G’day Golf fans, we’re closing in on Augusta with just two tournaments before we swing down Magnolia Lane, writes BLUE HORSESHOE.

It’s an interesting field with many top dogs here to get their game nice and tight before The Masters. Texas specialists tend to thrive in their own backyards and home conditions and Texas native Scottie Scheffler will be hard to hold out, but I think I might have struck oil in Houston with some of the value I’ve uncovered this week.

Lee Hodges – Currently ? with starsports.bet 

Hodges went well at The Players and finished strongly at the Valspar last week. Both are tough setups, which shows Hodges’ game is trending well. Then there’s his course form, which also reads well with a prominent showing here last year. For me, all roads points to Lee Hodges having a week in Houston.

Eckroat has played well in the hard and fast Texas conditions with his first PGA Tour win in Texas. Eckroat can be streaky, but there’s no way he’s the money currently quoted in the market. Each way all day.

Potgieter is a bomber, which suit this course. When he’s in the zone he’s a match for anyone in the world. I see the big South African lad as a major young talent in the game. He’s already a PGA Tour winner but I think he’s still a little under the radar, so I love his price this week.

Nico Echavarria – Currently ? with starsports.bet 

I flagged up Nico earlier this year as an exciting prospect for 2026, and he duly went and won a couple of weeks later. Nico is a quality ball striker and putter, and I think he’s a great quote each way here. Houston has always been a great tune-up course for Augusta. Nico’s game is perfect for Augusta, and I believe he’s a real shot for a good showing here, He’s also a definite shout at exotic odds for the Masters.
