STAR GOLF PREVIEW: RBC Heritage

Well, that’s Christmas for another year, writes BLUE HORSESHOE

There was a moment at The Masters when I thought our boy Sammy Burns was going to do the business and come in for us at a lovely quote, but it wasn’t to be. We’ll take the more than decent place money and move on to the RBC Heritage.

Unusually for a week after a major, the field is still packed with big names because this is one of these PGA Tours ‘Signature’ events. These increased money and ranking points events were put in place in response to the threat of LIV. How hollow that threat seems now. I doubt LIV will see out the year. Having worked in the Middle East for ten years, I know this; once the Arabs are done with something, they walk away from it faster than a kid with a broken toy. Good riddance, I say. In my personal opinion LIV almost drove professional golf off a cliff and robbed viewers of seeing a bunch of world class golfers in their prime compete with each other week to week for a number of years.

But onto happier topics. The RBC Heritage at Harbour Town in South Carolina, is a famously tough track. Anyone who wins here has to keep it out of trouble off the tee’s as the course twists it’s way through the thick growths of trees that line almost every fairway. As ever I’m ignoring the favourites and looking for long odds value and there is definitely some about.

An important point to remember: This is a limited field event, so the starting field is smaller than usual, which is always a good thing.

Blue Horseshoe Loves:

Sam Burns – currently at ? with starsports.bet

One thing Sam did for the majority of last week was drive it well. It’s for this reason that I’m sticking with him this week. I still think he represents strong each way value, even after his strong showing at Augusta.

Nico Echavarria – currently at ? with starsports.bet

Nico had a poor Masters, but it was his first spin round Augusta, so we’ll forgive him that. He’s in much calmer waters here and I still rate this young man’s game very highly. I think he’s outstanding value here.

Andrew Novak – currently at ? with starsports.bet

Novak also had a poor first spin at Augusta National, but he finished second in this very tournament last year. He drives it nice and straight which is half the battle here at Harbour Town, so I’m going to go back to Andrew to repeat his heroics of last years at a course he clearly feels comfortable at. He’s any old money, so Andrew, if you could just go one place better this week that would be Marvellous, thanks mate.

Aldrich Potgieter – currently at ? with starsports.bet

My absolute outlier this week is Potgieter. The big South African lad can drive it a mile and if the wind gets up, which it can do around Hilton town, Potgieter can benefit where other will struggle. My fear is if he tries to overpower the course and gets caught up in the trees, but as this price, I’m willing to take a little each way poke.
