GEORGE BOUGHEY: Weekend Preview
It’s my first Star Sports blog of the year and it’s great to be back, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.
I’ll be providing the latest from Craven House and previewing our Friday and Saturday runners each week as well as daily blogs from the big festivals so make sure you’re following the Star Sports channels!
It’s an exciting time of year. We’ve got the 2000 Guineas favourite Bow Echo, who worked well on the Rowley Mile on Tuesday and is in super shape ahead of the race in just over two weeks’ time. Fingers crossed we can get him there in the shape he’s in now. It’s a quieter weekend on paper, but we still have a few runners to look forward to.

FRIDAY
AMORIM – 4:55pm Newbury
I think I made a bit of a mess of him last year. He’s a big, long-striding horse and I probably ran him on tracks that didn’t suit.
He looks like he wants seven furlongs rather than six, and this should give us a fair assessment of him, on decent ground, on a straight track and over the right trip.
TRYST – 5:05pm Wolverhampton
She’s had one run already this year on the all-weather at Kempton and stays on the same mark. I think she’s better on turf. We were going to wait but that race presented itself well. She ran very well and may just have been a bit unlucky with how things fell. She goes here with a very good winning chance.
ARMSTRONG – 6:52pm Bath
He was second at Kempton and I’m sure he’s matured over the winter and done well.
I was pleased to see him step forward after being gelded and I’m looking forward to seeing him run again. He should go pretty close with a clear run.
SATURDAY
OLIVER SHOW – 3:10pm Newbury
He finally came home from Bahrain and is in great shape. The team out there, notably Rosie Jessop, have done a superb job with him. He looks fantastic and has been working nicely through the week.
Newbury should suit him. We’ve often thought Ascot might be the track for him, but they tend to go that bit too hard early there and it doesn’t always play to his strengths.
He was second on his first run back last year in the Lincoln and comes here in good order. You can never be too confident in these races, but if he turns up in the form he’s been showing at home, he should run a big race.
BEST CHANCE: I’d say Tryst or Armstrong, with a slight preference for Tryst.
