GEORGE BOUHGEY: Weeked Preview & Royal Ascot Preperations

A busy Saturday ahead as we build towards Royal Ascot. At this stage, we’ll probably have around 12-15 runners all being well but plenty can change in the next fortnight! writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.

FRIDAY

BALTIC FLEET – 9.00pm Wolverhampton

He seems to have come out of his encouraging run at York in great order and the plan for a while has been to try and get him into the mile-and-a-half handicap at Royal Ascot. This is a slightly different assignment for him, but he stays well and goes there in super shape.

SATURDAY

NIGHT SHINING – 1.15pm Chester

She’s a big improver and was still very raw when she ran at Yarmouth. She seems to be taking a step forward with every piece of work at home. She’s drawn nicely in stall five and the bit of rain they had overnight won’t do her any harm. She goes there with a live chance.

THIS MOMENT – 1.50pm Chester

He was a bit too green on debut at Hamilton where they went flat out down the hill, but he finished his race off well. His work since has been good and I think he’ll improve for the experience. It looks a decent race and he’s drawn a touch wider than ideal, but hopefully if Billy can get a position he should go very close.

SHARPEN – 3.10pm Carlisle

She’s settled in well and we’ve been waiting for a bit of rain for her, so she’ll likely head to Carlisle. If it stays fast she could wait for another day, but she’s a filly who is going the right way and one to look forward to later in the season.

LAKE COMO – 3.45pm Carlisle

A bit of rain would help him as well. William (Buick) felt the ground was just too quick for him at Newbury so he was looked after there. His work has been good since and he’s a progressive horse, it just hasn’t quite happened for him the last couple of starts.

ZIGHY – 4.05pm Chester

She goes there with a very live chance and has been drawn nicely. The programme has dictated that she and Champonie take each other on, which is a shame, but from a good draw she should be very competitive.

CHAMPONIE – 4.05pm Chester

She found five furlongs against the boys around here a bit sharp last time, but she hit the line strongly. She’s another who has been drawn well and I think she goes there with a really good winning chance over the extra furlong.

ORCHID – 4.20pm Carlisle

The ground was just a bit too lively for her at Newmarket and I think she wants a mile now rather than six furlongs. Carlisle should provide a stiffer test and she’s trained nicely. A bit of rain would help and she’s in super shape.

QUEENCARD – 7.12pm Lingfield

I was pleased with her debut. Like a lot of our two-year-olds, we just wanted to get a run into her and some experience on the track. She’s out of a Queen Mary winner by a very good five-furlong horse and I think dropping back in trip will suit her well. She’s drawn nicely and hopefully she can get towards the rail. She looks to hold a very good chance.

ROXA LOVE – 7.12pm Lingfield

She’ll run as well. She’s still quite green but it’s no bad thing to get her on the track. Her work suggests she can win a novice, but I think she’ll improve for the experience and be learning on the job.

Best chance this week is probably QUEENCARD at Lingfield on Saturday evening.
