GEORGE BOUGHEY: Royal Ascot Tuesday
There’s been plenty of talk in the build-up, but we’re just excited to get going now. Royal Ascot is the pinnacle of the season for Flat trainers, and it’s incredibly hard to have a winner. We’ve been lucky enough to have three already in our career, but we’ve never gone into the week with a horse like Bow Echo, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.
TUESDAY
ROSY AFFAIR – 3.40pm Ascot
🎩 King Charles III Stakes (Group 1) 🎩
Rosy Affair drops back to what is a stiff five furlongs at Ascot, and I think that should suit her well. Billy was saying after Haydock that she was probably running on fumes late on and you could make a similar argument about Newmarket too, so we’re looking forward to seeing her back at this trip.
She’s drawn in the middle and while there’s plenty of pace higher up, we’re only a handful of stalls away from the Australian horse, who looks sure to go forward, so I imagine we’ll ride her quite handily.
She’s been a pleasure to train, and she’s in great order and we’re looking forward to seeing how she gets on.
BOW ECHO – 4.20pm Ascot
🎩 St James’s Palace Stakes (Group 1) 🎩
Bow Echo arrives at Ascot in super shape and he hasn’t missed a beat since Newmarket. He’s been an absolute pleasure to train all season and his work at home has been good.
I was never especially worried about the draw. In what was always likely to be a field of nine or fewer, a field of six takes the draw out of the equation. He’s such a straightforward horse who can be ridden anywhere, so Billy won’t have any instructions from me.
Billy knows him inside out. He’s ridden him in all of his fast pieces of work, and we’ve got complete faith in him. It’s a brilliant race and one we’re hugely excited to be part of it.
SURVIE – 5.35pm Ascot
🎩 Wolferton Stakes (Listed Race) 🎩
Survie has drawn eight and the key for her will probably be getting away on terms. She’s been a little slow from the stalls recently, but we’ve worked hard on that and she’s jumping much sharper at home than she has before.
If she can hold a midfield position, I think a strongly run race could suit her really well. There are certainly more things in her favour here than there were on her last couple of starts.
Her condition, her work and her attitude are as good as I’ve had them with her. She’s in a fantastic place mentally and physically.
This is never an easy race for fillies because there are plenty of alternative options at this time of year, but we’re happy to take our chance.
