GEORGE BOUGHEY: Royal Ascot Thursday
Star Sports ambassador George Boughey looks ahead to the third day of Royal Ascot…
🎩 WATERFORD CASTLE – 3.05pm Ascot
King George V Stakes
Waterford Castle is still a maiden, albeit he’s looked very progressive in his starts for us. He’s drawn a little wide, which over 12 furlongs here is no bad thing.
He steps up to 12 furlongs for the first time and I actually think at 20/1 or 25/1 he’s not without an each-way chance. We’re very happy with how he’s trained into it and, as I say, I’d give him an each-way chance.
🎩 HILITANY – 4.50pm Ascot
Britannia Stakes
Hilitany found things all a little bit too quick around Goodwood the last day. I do think back on the straight course up to the mile, we might see him to best effect.
Whether the stiff mile is what he wants, we will find out, but if he handles the occasion and Billy can get him to relax into a nice spot, I think he can run well.
It’s going to be hard off a three-figure mark, but he’s trained super into this and it was only his first run back.

🎩 MOONFALL – 4.50pm Ascot
Britannia Stakes
Moonfall is training great. Being drawn high looks like it might be the spot to be in the Britannia, it often is down the stands’ side rail.
He’s a horse who we fancied into Chester, but he got drawn wide and luckily we were able to win the race with another horse. He’s a bit of an eye-catcher and certainly one who we think is well treated.
There are often a number of horses who are well treated in this race, so he’ll have to be on his A-game, but Zac Lloyd takes the ride and it’d be great to provide him with a winner on his first trip to Ascot.
🎩 BRASIL POWER – 6.10pm Ascot
Buckingham Palace Stakes
Brasil Power drops back in trip for the Buckingham Palace. He is a winner over seven furlongs, but it does feel like this could be on the sharp side for him at this stage of his career.
He deserves his day at Royal Ascot. He’s done a brilliant job leading Bow Echo and hopefully he can run with credit.
