GEORGE BOUGHEY: Royal Ascot Friday
Zac Lloyd gave Moonfall a great ride to get him home in the Britannia, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.
We thought he was well-handicapped coming into the race and it’s fantastic to pull off a win in a race like this.
🎩 Libertango – 2:30 Ascot
Albany Stakes
Libertango has done super since her impressive debut. It wasn’t a huge surprise that she won first time out, but I thought she’d improve for it and her work looks like that has been the case.
She’s drawn low, which doesn’t look ideal, but there are a couple of the fancied horses around her and I’m delighted with how she’s trained into the race.
🎩 Hopewell Rock – 3:40 Ascot
Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes
Hopewell Rock got a nice form boost in the Copper Horse with the one-two from Newmarket finishing first and second in the Copper Horse.
He’s drawn in eight. I could have done with being drawn a little bit higher, to be brutally honest, but he’s in good shape and looks tailor-made for a race like this.
🎩 Awaken – 5:00 Ascot
Sandringham Stakes
Awaken bombed out in the Nell Gwyn, but she was very keen beforehand and on a windy day it just wasn’t right for her. She still had a winter coat at the time and she looks terrific at the moment.
We won this race a couple of years ago with a similar horse in Soprano and they have quite similar profiles.
She steps up to the mile for the first time, but her pedigree suggests that she’ll want it. I think, drawn well and ridden to finish, she can be hitting the line very strongly.
🎩 Westport – 6:10 Ascot
Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes
Westport is a little bit like the two-year-old in that he’s drawn out in the low numbers and that’s a little frustrating because he’s trained superbly into this.
You need everything to go your way in these handicaps and if there is enough pace over towards him – I think Jasour was drawn over there – then hopefully he’ll be okay.
He kind of looked like one of our best chances of the week, but the draw is a question mark.
