STAR WORLD CUP PREVIEW Sat: Panama v England

England face Panama at New York/New Jersey Stadium on Saturday, with the Three Lions looking to bounce back from a drab draw to Ghana in their last group match, writes JOE CITRONE.

England have already booked their place in the knockout rounds, but top spot in Group L is still up for grabs, with goal difference doing plenty of the talking heading into the final round of fixtures.

Panama, by contrast, have lost both matches at this tournament and arrive already eliminated, two games and two 1-0 defeats without scoring a goal, and that record alone tells you what Tuchel’s side should expect to find waiting for them.

This is a fixture England have never lost in their only previous attempt, a 6-1 rout back in 2018 with Kane scoring a hat-trick, and on the balance of one side already packing its bags I can’t see that record troubled now, which is why I like the look of England to win to nil.

Team news isn’t entirely straightforward for the Three Lions, though. Reece James misses out with a hamstring injury that’s also likely to keep him sidelined for the last 32, with Jarrell Quansah the likely man to step in at right-back.

Declan Rice has been passed fit despite being seen strapped up after the Ghana game, and Elliot Anderson is also expected to be available having carried his own knock through the week, but with qualification already secure, don’t be surprised if Tuchel manages both through to the knockouts rather than risk them for ninety minutes that don’t change much for England’s position.
