We have a huge weekend ahead at Newmarket, with Libertango taking her chance in what looks a brilliant renewal of the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes on Saturday, writes GEORGE BOUGHEY.

LIBERTANGO – 2.27 Newmarket

Libertango has trained super into the Cheveley Park and I couldn’t be happier with her.

Having that time between York and here has really allowed us to give her a full assessment and prepare her properly for Saturday. She was super at York, especially considering I went there in two minds as to whether we would even run because of the ground.

We’ve had a better dry spell at Newmarket in the build-up to the Cheveley Park, and she has trained extremely well.

It’s a fantastic race. There are three very good fillies towards the top of the market, while Andrew Balding’s filly was impressive in the Sirenia and Joseph O’Brien’s filly has since become a Stakes winner after running well in the Duchess of Cambridge.

It probably goes without saying that this is the two-year-old race of the year and potentially the best two-year-old race we’ve seen for a long time. We’ll have to be at our very best, but we’re ready to give it a shot.

In terms of the two-year-old fillies I’ve trained, Libertango would certainly be right at the top of the pecking order at this stage of her career. Obviously Cachet went on to become a Group 1 winner at three, but the speed Libertango has shown in her last couple of starts is as good as we’ve had.
