HARRY SKELTON: Chepstow Welsh Racing Festival Saturday

After kicking off at Chepstow on Friday, we’re looking forward to another busy day back there on Saturday, writes HARRY SKELTON.

Cooltobecareless was mightily impressive over hurdles, and we’re hoping for more positive performances from our runners as the Jumps season gets into full swing.

SATURDAY

SACRE CHEF & SOLAR JET, WHISTLING DAVE – 1:35pm Chepstow

In the juvenile hurdle, I ride Sacre Chef, who has run once on the Flat in France. He has schooled very well and has done plenty of work. We like what we see at home and hopefully he won’t be too far away. Obviously, with these juveniles, you don’t know quite what you’ve got, but he’s done nothing wrong at home.

Solar Jet has yet to beat a rival in any race, so hopefully going over hurdles should help. He has schooled well, but we are not expecting too much from him first time.

We also run debutant Whistling Dave, who is another that has schooled well. This is probably a big ask for a horse who has never been on the track before.

MADE U BLUSH & EDELAK – 2:10pm Chepstow

Made U Blush had a good season last year, progressing all season. She’s done plenty of work at home ahead of this run. A good, strongly run race suits her, and hopefully we’ll get that here. She can be a bit headstrong sometimes. We’ve put the tongue tie on for the first time, as I think that will help her settle a little bit. I think she’s competitively handicapped. It is hard for these four-year-olds in their first season out of the juvenile ranks, but she’s been doing well at home.

Edelak has had a very good summer, but I think now the handicapper has caught up with him, so this might be a tough ask.

HITINTHEHEADLINES – 2:45pm Chepstow

He ran okay in a couple of bumpers last year. It looks like there are one or two in the race that have won bumpers and look above average, so we’ll see how we get on, but he should run a decent race.

MISS CYNTHIA – 3:22pm Chepstow

Miss Cynthia was probably a bit fortunate when winning at Fakenham in January. She has plenty of ability and, if she’s in the right frame of mind, I’d like to think she can run very well.

THE MIGHTY CELT, BOOMBAWN & TAKE NO CHANCES – 4:02pm Chepstow

I ride The Mighty Celt. He ran some good races last year over two miles, but I think he wants the step up in trip now. Obviously, it’s a big field here, so hopefully they go a fast pace, which will suit us. He’s in very good form and has done a lot of work, so hopefully he won’t be far away.

Take No Chances is obviously a fantastic mare, but she’s got a lot of weight to carry. She ran very well to finish sixth in this race last year when again carrying top-weight. Hopefully, she can put on another good show again.

Boombawn is back over hurdles. He’s done plenty of work at home. I think this is a competitive race, but hopefully he’ll run well. We’ll go back over fences after this, so hopefully this will give him a good sharpen up. He’s a horse that usually needs his first run.

NORTHERN SINGER – 5:10pm Chepstow

Northern Singer runs in the mares’ bumper. She won a point-to-point on okay ground, so that won’t be an issue. She’s done everything nicely at home so far, and I think she will run very well.
