ADAM KIRBY: Windsor Weekend

A week on from Royal Ascot and I’m still feeling cut up about Harry Angel. There’s no point in disguising the fact that it was a total disaster. Everything happened so quickly – I didn’t realise his leg was caught and neither did anyone else as the rug was covering it.

As tough as it was, I have to move on as these things happen in racing – just wish they wouldn’t happen in one of the biggest races of the year for me.

I’ve got a busy weekend at Windsor with eight booked rides and hopefully a bit of breeze coming off the river as it looks set to be baking again.

In other news, I’m getting a twitter account sorted out, so looking forward to hopefully a few of you following. Details to follow in next week’s blog.

But please don’t tweet me about the World Cup – I HATE FOOTBALL – sorry !!

SATURDAY

WINDSOR

DARK SHADOW (1.50)

Have ridden him in both of his starts at Ascot and Sandown and he’s still very much learning his trade. He over-raced a bit last time and weakened deep inside the final furlong. Hopefully he will have learnt some more about the game and turn his experience into a positive in this field of debutants and lightly raced sorts.

SWISS CHILI (2.25)

Made his debut here and was very babyish. I’m 99% sure he’ll improve with the benefit of that run over this shorter trip. The downside is most of the field look likely improvers so it will simply come down to the one that has learnt the most.

SECOND GENERATION (3.00)

Romped home at Catterick by six lengths and then allowed to take her chance in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot where she finished down the field. She’s clearly held in high regard by trainer James Tate and the relatively quick turnaround wouldn’t worry me as it’s often the case that those who finish down the field can recover much quicker than the ones involved in the business end.

SOFIA’S ROCK (3.35)

Absolutely bolted home at Haydock last time out, making all to win by seven lengths and no surprise that the handicapper has had his say with a hefty 10lb rise. That takes him into a new bracket and he may need to improve again to land this competitive class 2 handicap. Mark Johnston’s runners are in such cracking form that there’s a strong possibility he can continue to progress.

MR OWEN (4.10)

Not much between the small field on official ratings but my fella remains a maiden, despite good efforts including in Listed company. We’ve got some ground to make up on Oh This Is Us based on course and distance form from last month.

MASHAM STAR (4.45)

Nice to pick up another ride for Mark Johnston and I thought this ones run at Ayr last week was more like it. Hopefully he’s now on an upwards curve. Plutonian is 2/2 at Windsor and might be our biggest danger.

SUNDAY

WINDSOR

PRINCE AHWAHNEE (3.00 Follow Us On Twitter At starsports_bet Handicap)

Failed to get competitive at Leicester last time out but remains a nice horse who is stepped back to the minimum trip for the first time in his career here. Should appreciate the fast ground.

MOVING FORWARD (3.35)

Yarmouth winner Argentello might prove a tough nut to crack here but I’m hoping that Moving Forward will come on a lot from his debut at Kempton when down the field. Improvement looks likely and the shorter trip should also suit.

Best Of Luck

ADAM
