ADAM KIRBY: Wolverhampton Saturday

Six booked rides at Wolverhampton on Saturday night on their eight race card which gets underway at 5.15pm.

SATURDAY

WOLVERHAMPTON

CASCELLA (5.15pm)

A wide open handicap to kick off the card and I ride the David O’Meara trained filly for the first time. She’ll need to show a fair bit more than she did on her all-weather debut here last time out but she’s in an easier grade and got a pound off from the handicapper.

MARHABAN (5.45pm)

This race just goes to show how competitive all-weather racing is now. A December maiden at Wolverhampton with runners from Charlie Appleby, John Gosden, Richard Hannon, Roger Charlton and Mark Johnston amongst others! Looking forward to the ride on the Charlie Appleby trained Marhaban, the son of New Approach who has got a lovely looking profile on paper being a brother of the French 2000 Guineas runner-up Hey Gaman. Charlie has fitted blinkers for the first time for added focus for him first time up. The trainer remains in great form with his last two runners winning.

WATER’S EDGE (6.15pm)

Second division of the same race and again the top stables well represented. I ride Water’s Edge who made a pleasing enough debut at Lingfield when fifth. He was doing his best work in the closing stages that day and should come on a bundle for the experience.

LAUBALI (7.15pm)

I ride this fella for the first time and David O’Meara has also put the cheekpieces on. Both his career wins have come here but he might have paid the price for that in terms of his handicap mark. He was well held over course and distance last time but now down 3lb in the weights and hopefully the cheekpieces will be a positive.

GREY BRITAIN (7.45pm)

This class 2 is the race of the night and looks wide open. I’ve only ridden Grey Britain once before and he gave me a good spin at Lingfield when fourth in the Listed Spring Cup Stakes so he has a touch of class. He’s back up in trip to the same distance he won a decent Newmarket handicap over and can hopefully put in a good night’s work here.

MAN OF VERVE (8.45pm)

I won on him over this course and trip two weeks ago and I think he can go well again here off his new mark (up 3lb). He’s got a low draw (3) again which should also help. Both Lollys Dream and Rivas Rob Roy were behind him last time and hopefully that form will be repeated here.

Good luck
ADAM
