ALEX CROOK: Premier League Matchday 4 Preview
talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent ALEX CROOK previews the weekend’s Premier League action with his recommended selections on starsports.bet including a BOOSTED treble. Alex starts with Luton’s first home game of the season on Friday night against West Ham ….
Only one place to start this week … Kenilworth Road, Luton LU1 ….
⚽ LUTON v WEST HAM
After a summer spruce-up Kenilworth Road is finally ready to welcome Premier League football on Friday night with high-flying West Ham the guests trying to spoil the Hatters tea party.
Historically taking on a newly-promoted side in the first home game of the season can be treacherous, although both Burnley and Sheffield United lost their openers in front of their own fans.
West Ham have made a far better start to the season than many, including me, predicted after a turbulent summer.
A win in Bedfordshire would propel the Hammers to the top of the Premier League table for at least 24 hours and I am going to side with David Moyes’s men to do exactly that.
Luton were a defensive disaster class in their opening weekend defeat at Brighton and did not look much better after a fortnight break in last weekend’s 3-0 loss at Chelsea.
I think West Ham to win at 8/11 with starsports.bet is a very solid bet to get your weekend off to a winning start.
James Ward-Prowse has made an excellent start to his career in East London and Luton’s combative approach will afford the set piece specialist opportunity to equal David Beckham’s record of scoring from 18 Premier League free-kicks.
I am very taken with Ward-Prowse to score at anytime at 5/2 with starsports.bet

⚽ BRIGHTON v NEWCASTLE
Both teams come into this game on the back of disappointing weekend defeats and both will be eager to bounce back.
Brighton were nowhere near as bad as their 1-3 scoreline at home to West Ham suggests, dominating possession and the shot count.
Roberto De Zerbi was not too critical of his players after that defeat, but in private will have been putting them through the ringer this week.
The Italian is a notoriously tough task-master, especially after losses, so I think it’s safe to expect a strong reaction on Saturday teatime.
Newcastle counterpart Eddie Howe will be kicking himself after throwing away three points against ten-man Liverpool and was partly culpable with some bizarre substitutions.
The Magpies have struggled to keep clean sheets for some time now and with Sven Botman sidelined by injury I fancy the free-flowing Seagulls to take advantage.
Brighton to win the game is 6/4 with starsports.bet
⚽ LIVERPOOL v ASTON VILLA
This could be one of the games of the weekend on Sunday afternoon as two of the Premier League’s most attack-minded teams go toe-to-toe at Anfield.
Liverpool have been playing with pretty much four strikers this season due to their lack of midfield options, which has left them very vulnerable on the counter-attack.
With Tyrone Mings facing a long spell on the sidelines and summer signing Pau Torres clearly still adapting to English football, Villa’s best form of defence so far has also been attack.
I picked out Moussa Diaby as the most exciting signings of the summer when we recorded our pre-season preview videos, and he has not disappointed, with plenty of goal involvements so far.
Diaby can once again cause the Liverpool backline issues and I would not rule out a repeat of the 1-1 draw that effectively ended the Reds’ faint Champions League hopes from the back end of last season.
A draw and both teams to score is 15/4 with starsports.bet
If, like me you have already fallen in love with Diaby, he is a massive 15/2 with starsports.bet to score the first goal.
