BEN KEITH’S BLOG: ‘Introducing Danny Archer, from Blood Diamond; new head of HR at Star Racing Ltd’
Greetings from Menorca, Blog. The beach, and then an hour in a hammock reading ‘Wuthering Heights’ await me… Did someone say it’s been raining back in Blighty..??
I was going to write to you regarding a newspaper article I read yesterday, in a local Spanish rag. It detailed a Russian college offering courses, that resulted in a formal qualification for successful students, in oral-sex, to women who want to better satisfy their partners. I have been banned from doing so though, by Belindabelle, as she believes it makes me look like a male-cheauvanist-pig. (Maybe a little late in the day for curbing that image, BB?).
I have chosen instead to write to you about Cafe Balear and a change of management in the human-resources department at Star Racing Ltd.
The shrewdies and local Cuitadella judges all mark your card the same way: In restaurants in the port, always take the ‘Menu del dia’ over the A La Carte menus.
On our first night, we went to a now non-descript establishment and ate a long since forgotten offering of sustenance. Starters and a shared fish and seafood platter, with water, coming to over 150. The tourists had been truly trapped. Well done, boys.
On our second night though, an insider directed us towards the prize; Cafe Balear. And we opted for the ‘Menu del dia’. If you’re not inside, you’re outside…
So, I’m expecting the usual set-menu rubbish of tomato and mozzarella cheese, followed by a 2/3 sized cack milanese and tomato spaghetti. Wrong. In Menorca, the A La Carte is served up for the foreign mugs and they REALLY look after the locals and regulars with the set menus. There were plenty of choices, all to proper full portion sizes, and the meal was simply delicious. In fact, the best value dinner I’ve had this year. I kicked off with the best rissotto I have ever eaten and then marched forward to a pork and saute potatoes main. I went off piste (naughty) briefly, because I can never quite confirm, can I Blog?, and sidled over some razor clams – they were simply perfect. Oh, and they chuck in a choice of four desserts. I dropped a pin on the page and took a muggy guess for a local cream pastry – ‘que rico!’.
Wait for it…€18 a head. Now, who ever said you can’t eat value? If you’re planning on visiting Menorca, definitely put Cafe Balear on the list.

Blog, is it a bit weird that I consider Gordon Gekko, Oskar Schindler, and Danny Archer, to be some of my best friends? Do you think that might be somewhat odd? No. Really? I don’t either, so let’s go on…
During the last two years, myself and Gaul Wood have been so over-run dealing with The Staff’s self-inflictions and Kardashian sisters type dramas, we had to succumb and actually do the unthinkable – employ (and pay for!) an HR department to entertain them through that unpredictable performance: life.
I think though, that everyone could really just do with going a brief walk, around the outside of the office block, with my good friend and Not-Staff extremist; Danny Archer.
Solomon Vandy did so, it took about one and a half minutes, and life was MUCH clearer for him afterwards.
I include a YouTube link CLICK HERE and take this opportunity to direct all of the lost people towards it.
Mixed paella ordered for tonight..ohh err missus! Shall get back to you before you know I’m even gone, Blog…
