BEN’S BLOG: ‘Blog, I’ve found some posh Aussies!!’

[dropcap]J[/dropcap]ust when you thought the only Aussies you’ve ever met, are either wandering about Earls Court, drinking lager, whilst telling extreme alpha-male jokes, or having punch-ups in the Walkabout, on the Embankment; I must now differ, Blog writes BEN KEITH (right). Like an explorer, I’ve actually gone out, and found some posh Aussies! Yes, such creatures are alive and well on our globe!!

Thanks go to my pen-pal, bookie from Down Under, Rob Waterhouse (left) for yet another wonderful book he has sent me, from the other side of the World.

I must tell you a funny story though, my dear Blog…

I first met Rob, when he was staying in London, here on holiday, to attend his beloved Royal Ascot. Him and his son, Tom, had opened a hedging account, and as with many new clients, I thought it good manners, to touch base with them, and introduce/impose myself, at the first opportunity.

So off I went, and we met at The Savoy, no less, for afternoon tea. As bookies do, we chatted about our luck, how business had been going, and the current state of the game.

Next to Rob sat his wife. He introduced her. Her name was ‘Gai’.

‘What do you do Gai?’, I asked.
Rob remained silent.
‘Oh, I train horses.’
‘Oh right, how’s it going?’
‘Not bad, thanks.’

Anyway, at the end of our meeting, my parting gesture, was to wish Gai the very best of luck with her venture.

On getting home, I actually looked her up online. Oh no, Blog. Oh no! She is the champion trainer of Australia, of all time, and has trained about a million Derby and Melbourne Cup winners!! I simply rested my forehead on the desk. I AM SO CLUELESS.
