BEN’S BLOG: ‘Everyone enjoying themselves at Romford’

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t was great fun to go along to the Romford Greyhound Owners Association, charity-night, on Saturday evening, in aid of Retired Greyhounds.

Chatting towards the end of the evening, with Paul Binks, the Chairman and Organiser, I was amazed when he said that they had raised an enormous £4,000. What a fabulous effort!

They really do, do things properly at Romford. A bouquet of flowers for sponsors. The manager coming to check on each table in the restaurant. And the whole track gleaming in Coral blue.

It takes forever and a day to get there. But the friendly crowd and cheery bookies are always worth the journey. PLEASE DON’T EVER SELL OUT TO A PROPERTY DEVELOPER.

In other news:

The Chase Restaurant, Romford Dog Track. They have raised their game here. The T-Bone Steak was so big, I’ll still be digesting it in a fortnight. The Chocolate Sponge and Custard dessert; the highlight. The service; quicker now too. At £28 a head, with entry, racecard, and entertainment, it represents outstanding value for a night out in London Town. 9
