BEN’S BLOG: ‘Get well soon Jerry ‘Get It Ready’ Croxford’
[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he legendary, London, Greyhound Racing pro-punter, Jerry Croxford, is a lion of a man. Wherever he goes, he lights up the room, and just with his character; roars out to all.
When I became the youngest bookmaker to bet at Walthamstow, I too, roared from the word go.
But one man had other ideas. Jerry. He wasn’t going to let a jumped-up, little, middle-class twit, like me, come and play to the crowd. No, not at his home-ground. He was the Boss and that was not going to be changing.
Over the next couple of years, Jerry intimidated me, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. He never, EVER shied away. NOT ONCE. He taught me so much about not just gambling but also about being a man and ALWAYS being true to yourself.
We then spent the next few years, becoming great friends.
Jerry is not a well boy. This blog, The Star Family, and the Greyhound Racing Community sends it’s love and best wishes to him at this time. ROARRR.
Over and out, B x
