BEN’S BLOG: ‘Meet Sofia’
[dropcap]E[/dropcap]veryday, when I arrive at Casa Hogar, Sofia is there, waiting to meet me at the gate.
We have the same conversation, where she asks me the following questions, in roughly this order:
Am I her friend?
What is her name?
How old do I think she is? (she then informs me again, that she is 16)
Will I help her in the kitchen that day? (The job she loves most, and would do everyday forever, without complaint)
Sofia then points at all the other children, leads me to them, and we have a procession of me having to guess everybody’s age, and see if I can also remember their names.
And everyday, I am left asking myself the following questions, in roughly this order:
Where will Sofia live when she has to 1 โleave?
Who will look after her?
She can’t read and write. When someone ruthless finds her, and spins her a yarn, which she will certainly believe; what will it be?
AND WHAT WILL HE DO TO HER?
Over and out, B x
