BEN’S BLOG: ‘American Market: I create nothing. I own.’

“I create nothing, I own.”
Gordon Gekko, Wall Street.

In Bill Barber’s outstanding research piece, in today’s Racing Post, he discusses the future of bookmaking in the US and chances and opportunities for UK Firms.

The Yanks understand ownership though. And this is not in The Firms’ favour. I believe that UK Bookies/Senior Staff will be drafted in as consultants/minor partners to EDUCATE the Americans and then, when they have served their purpose, be phased out of the juicy States. And as usual, the Corporate Cluelesses will be left holding the baby, running the betting in minor and unprofitable States. ‘Oh, THAT’S why we could buy a pitch in the third line at Ludlow/open betting-shops in Alaska so cheaply..’. OHHHH.

The World is a mature place business-wise now. Everybody knows the value of everything. Margins are tiny and The Game is all about repeating them as often as possible. THERE WILL BE NO BARGAINS IN THE US of A.

Over and out, B x
