BEN’S BLOG: ‘The Flapping Track’

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]’m not sure if it’s a good advertisement for Greyhound Racing, but I recently found this fascinating little documentary, about a Flapping Track, in the north of England.

What is a Flapping Track? It is a greyhound track, that is not licensed, by the NGRC. Because of this, the racing is considerably ‘strokier’, and it attracts even more rogues and characters than even the usual tracks that are about!!

I have always been petrified, but rather excited, regarding the prospect of making a book at ‘the flaps’. It would be rough and ready, to say the least, but that’s what attracted us all to the game, in the first place, isn’t it, Blog?

I must say though, the betting-ring looked busier than I would have dreamt, and there were no less than five bookies there. Can anyone name ANY other dog-track now, that has five books standing? I certainly can’t. Suicidal stuff, I’d say. Note to self: DO NOT MAKE A BOOK AT THE FLAPS.

In other news:

I’m off to Lords, to check out our betting-stand, that the Star Army are nobly running. However, Blog, these punters just don’t understand the rules, do they? On our first day, we had a scallywag turn up, thinking he could avail himself of some naughty early-morning racing prices! Oh yes we did, Blog!! What is it these people don’t understand? They surely know the system by now, don’t they? I’M THE ONLY ONE ALLOWED TO TAKE SNIDEY EARLY-MORNING PRICES!!

Over and out, B x

Ps: Anyone fancy getting a pitch at the flaps with me? It’ll be fun. We’ll get someone to do a card for us. We’ll go and watch the trials and try and get an edge. We’ll start at the end of the line, but pull a few decent punters in, here and there. We’ll make a start. We’ll try and get ourselves a few quid… Let’s do this…just one more time…
