Weight problems cut his career as a jockey short aged just 30. In 2018 he won the HWPA Broadcaster of the Year and is now a familiar face on ITV and Sky Racing. Meeting Jason Weaver.


JASON WEAVER (part 1 of 2)

HWPA Broadcaster of the Year 2019 Jason Weaver talks about winning his award and getting into the media game after retiring as a jockey aged 30. He explains that his first love was rugby and not racing, falling in love with horses, buying his first pony for £32 and a fridge-freezer. Starting his racing career with Luca Cumani, winning the Champion Apprentice title with 60 winners then riding 200 winners the following season as a professional. He describes his struggle with the scales from an early age and great friendship with Frankie Dettori. He talks fondly of Pat Eddery and the type of trainers that it’s a nightmare to ride for.
