Champagne on ice (with Ruby Tuesday insurance)

[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t’s the opening day of Cheltenham 2014, or as Star Sports are calling it…. Ruby Tuesday.

And if you haven’t checked out the cashback offer (link on the right) click it now.

It’s a great offer (I know, I would say that…) but actually I wouldn’t if I didn’t believe it as a punter. If you are considering backing Vautour, Champagne Fever, Hurricane Fly or Quevega – it’s an insurance policy to be proud of. CASHBACK if your choice finishes out of the first three. Certainly a better policy than the shameful treatment by the insurance companies of flood victims in Somerset and Devon – wriggling out of paying at every opportunity. But we’ll park that one on today of all days.

Today is simply the best days racing I can remember in so long. The whole Festival is superb – but the opening day this year, in particular, shines.

And it’s all about Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh who got the meeting off to a flyer last year with Champagne Fever in the opener. He goes for glory again at Cheltenham today – to bid for his third Festival win having also won the Champion Bumper. Of the Ruby four, he would be the one I’d have most concerns about so I’m happy to back him with the Ruby Tuesday cover option as the one thing that could let him down is his lack of experience over fences.

There’s nothing more to be said about Hurricane Fly who goes for Champion Hurdle number three and his 20th Grade One. Yes 20. He’s still the best of the Irish as he proved when winning the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown but faces fierce competition from the younger The New One and My Tent Or Yours.

The cotton wool comes off Quevega who is likely to go off odds on as she attempts to win the Mares race for a frankly ridiculous sixth time and beat Golden Millers record of consecutive wins whilst Vautour will be bidding to win the opening Supreme for Willie Mullins and Ruby Walsh again – but don’t dismiss the two other Mullins runners.

For me, it’s Champagne Fever – with the Ruby Tuesday insurance offer applied – naturally. And if he wins it’s a Tandoori King Prawn with ALL the trimmings washed down by a Cobra. (Other Indian beers might be available but are not as good IMO).

RECOMMENDED BET (scale of 1-10 points)
