DAVY RUSSELL: Ascot Saturday
It’s great to be back in action this weekend after recovering from the flu I mentioned last week. I’m flying over to the UK on Saturday for two rides at Ascot. Looking at the weather forecast, conditions are sure to be testing with plenty of rain about. Fingers crossed the card gets the go ahead after the 8am inspection.
No racing on Sunday but it’s the calm before the storm with a really busy Festive period of racing and I look forward to brining you my thoughts on it next week.
In the meantime, I wish you all a very Happy Christmas and thanks for reading this year.
SATURDAY
ASCOT
PALOMA BLUE (1.15pm)
The main reason I am coming over is to ride Paloma Blue. Whilst he is versatile on the ground front, I wouldn’t want extreme testing ground – so that obviously has to be a concern given current conditions. He only has four rivals but they can all be given a chance as there’s not much between them all on the ratings. Riders Onthe Storm won nicely in Aintree on his first start for Nigel Twiston-Davies.
AGRAPART (2.25pm Marsh Hurdle)
The big hurdle race of the day and it’s obviously all about Paisley Park who won this last year and hasn’t been beaten since. My fella Agrapart will definitely like the ground and won’t mind anymore rain. We’ve got a big task on our hands but he’s very tough and goes well here at Ascot.
Good Luck
