DAVY RUSSELL: Navan Sunday

[dropcap]U[/dropcap]nfortunately not exactly the day I was looking forward to on Saturday. I took a bit of a kicking at Gowran but am resting up tonight and will be back at Navan for Sunday’s cracking good Troytown card.

ELLIE MAC 12.35pm

Unlikely to be any world beaters in this as it’s an auction race restricted to horses costing under €30,000. I’ve schooled Ellie Mac and she’s jumped well. She’s never run on the flat but finished third in a point to point at Lemonfield and would have been a lot closer but for being badly hampered at the last. She should handle the ground fine.

DELTA WORK 1.05pm (Monksfield Hurdle)

Ran well on his first start on testing ground at Naas when third to Early Doors but stable companion Samcro will be a tough nut to crack. Samcro is a lovely uncomplicated horse who seems versatile both trip and ground wise.

Built up a sequence of four wins in a row earlier in his career including his maiden hurdle at Punchestown. Been off the course for a while now and hopefully freshened up for his first start over the larger obstacles.

MALA BEACH 2.35pm (Troytown Chase)

Delighted with his reappearance at Galway after a long lay off and he has been given a break since then in preparation for this big prize. Going to need a big run to win this with 11-9 but he has winning form on heavy and I’m hopeful of a good ride. Obviously hugely competitive with the top weight Acapella Bourgeois a real class horse on his day.
