It’s day two of the Dublin Racing Festival and I now have just the one ride on The Storyteller in the Unibet Irish Gold Cup. Sadly the ground is much quicker than we were hoping for, so my other intended rides on Coeur Sublime and Delta Work are now both non runners.
THE STORYTELLER (3.35pm Unibet Irish Gold Cup)
Back aboard The Storyteller (pictured) in the feature event of the day and he is really up against it here with the likes of Road To Respect and Bellshill. My fella fights his corner every time he runs and he is a consistent horse but he has been running extremely well just finishing out of the frame. If he continues to keep running like that he keeps improving, there is no reason why he won’t get involved here. Al Boum Photo is an interesting runner but the main worry for me is Bellshill for Willie (Mullins) and I think he will go well with the Mullins team back in form.
Elsewhere on the card…
1.50pm Chanelle Pharma Novice Hurdle
I don’t have a ride here but Gordon’s (Elliott) Vision D’honneur, who won his maiden in Punchestown last month, is taking on a strong team here of Willie’s (Mullins). He has some nice horses here with the likes of Aramon and Klassical Dream. However, Vision D’honneur is one of the leading two milers around and I have a bit of a soft spot for him. He didn’t run great in his first race but he made up for it on his second start and he is definitely an improver. Aramon has found his niche also and this looks like it will be a shootout between Willie and Gordon here with Leopardstown sure to suit Vision D’honneur.
2.25pm William Fry Handicap Hurdle
Again, I have no ride here, but Gigginstown have a strong hand in this race with four runners. This is a very interesting race with quality the whole way down the card right down to the bottom with the likes of The Gatechecker who you can’t dismiss. It’s a hell of a race. Brosna George has been improving all along with Salty Boy at the top of the weights, while Cuneo for Henry De Bromhead is another in a wide open race.
