I had a good spin from Prevarivate in Naas on Saturday who travelled really well for me but Uhtred just had too much for us in the closing stages. It was a great first run over hurdles though for this one and I’m sure he’ll get his turn very soon.

Moving on to Navan on Sunday where I have four booked rides on a good card.

12.10 HAPPY VICTORY Kilberry Pub & Kitchen Maiden Hurdle (4yo+) 2m 4f

Gordon (Elliott) saddles three here including Ginto who is going to be a tough nut to crack given he brings some smart bumper form into the race – including a win here the last day when the ground was heavy. It’ll be a lot quicker today but he’s always looked made for the jumping game. I ride debutant Happy Victory who has schooled well and we’ll get a feel for how good he is today.

12.40 CHEMICAL ENERGY For Auction Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) (4yo+) 2m

Chemical Energy gave me a nice feel when we won over course and distance back in September which was his first start over hurdles. He looks sure to have come on from that and is fully entitled to have a crack in the deeper end. Despite the small field there’s plenty of depth to this race with all seven having previous winning form and I guess the obvious danger has to be the unbeaten My Mate Mozzie who looked really good when winning at Punchestown last month and getting his field well strung out.

1.10 GRAND ROI Lismullen Hurdle (Grade 2) (4yo+) 2m 4f

My fella needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort in the Coral Cup in Cheltenham where he just didn’t run his race. He’s won after a break before though and Grand Roi will come into this a fresh horse. Gordon also runs Sire Du Berlais who renews rivalry with the Stayers’ Hurdle winner Flooring Porter. The pair obviously stand out on the formbook and have bigger targets ahead of them.

2.55 Tote Fortria Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+) 2m

No ride for me here but I will certainly be keeping an eye on my old friend Samcro (pictured below) who is an in and out performer and will need to be on one of his better races with Notebook in the race. Gordon also runs Make My Heart Fly who is a lovely consistent mare but is likely to have her work cut out at this level.

3.25 BUDDY RICH Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase (4yo+) 2m 1f

I’m on Buddy Rich who continues to run well for me but we just need a bit of luck as he deserves to win a race after finishing second in all four of his starts over fences. We were no match for Third Time Lucki at Cheltenham the last day but he looked really good and hopefully that form will prove strong. We’re back up against Ballyadam who came down at the first when we were second to Cape Gentleman in Punchestown last month.

Good Luck
