DAVY RUSSELL exclusive blog PUNCHESTOWN SUNDAY

No winners on Saturday but both Prevaricate and Indigo Breeze ran well for me in Fairyhouse to take second. As I said in Saturday’s blog it looked a competitive card and so it proved.

Moving onto Sunday’s action and it’s another big day in Punchestown. I’ve three rides on the card including in the opening Moscow Flyer which looks a cracker. Thoughts on all three races below.

I don’t have a ride in the Kildare Novice Chase but it will be a fascinating watch. The race obviously revolves around Bob Olinger and this will be his first big test over fences. It’s all about getting some more experience under his belt before the Festivals and he should get a good test with the likes of Capodanno and Gaillard Du Mesnil but he oozed class over hurdles and should get the job done.

SUNDAY

PUNCHESTOWN

12.15pm GRINGO D’AUBRELLE Sky Bet Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m

The meeting starts with a cracking renewal of the Moscow Flyer and I’m hoping my fella Gringo D’Aubrelle (pictured below) can put in another a good shift. He already had a point and bumper win to his name before winning for me in Fairyhouse in November and he gave me a good feel that day beating Adamantly Chosen. I thought he ran a grand race for Gordon (Elliott) and the team in the Challow at Newbury. He’s still learning about the game so to finish third in a Grade 1 at this stage has got to be promising. I know Dysart Dynamo is held in the highest regard and after his 19 length win on hurdling debut in Cork he still could be anything. Guily Billy was also a wide margin winner of his latest start and is clearly improving and when you throw in the unbeaten Hawai Game it should be a hell of a race.

1.15pm GINO DRUMMER BOY 15% Off Festival Tickets Maiden Hurdle (Div II) 2m

I’ve only sat on him at home but this is very much first day at school for him. He showed a little bit of promise on his bumper debut and if Gino Drummer Boy can build on that experience we hopefully might be able to get a piece of this. Gordon also saddles Jack In The Box who is a lovely big horse but a young one too and whatever he does tomorrow he’ll definitely come on for.

1.45pm LUGG RIVER Punchestown Gift Vouchers Mares Handicap Hurdle 2m 5f

Lugg River ran well enough on her debut for us the last day in Tramore and is now back in handicap company. She’s plenty of experience now and loves the soft ground but this is a competitive enough mares handicap so we’ll give it our best shot.

Good Luck
Davy
