DAVY RUSSELL: Galway Festival Tuesday

Delighted to have started Galway in the best possible way on Monday with the winner of the opener for Gordon (Elliott) on Lethal Steps.

He travelled really sweetly for me and despite a bit of congestion before the last picked up nicely to win going away.

I’m back at Galway today for two rides.

Despite there just being five runners, this looks a race stacked with future talent and will be tough to win. My fella comes here on the back of winning a maiden hurdle at Cork – I rode him that day and he got the job done nicely, although we may have been a bit fortunate as Born By The Sea was challenging before falling at the last. Whatever the case, there’s no doubt that this is much tougher and he will have to come on again. The Willie Mullins trained Fast Buck won well at Listowel and will clearly be a big danger and I think Fine Brunello could run well in receipt of weight. He’s trained by Joseph O’Brien who had a winner on the opening day with Linger.

He’s struggled a little to show his hurdles form over fences and he’s now back in trip after racing over 2m 6f at Kilbeggan last time out. He needs to show us more but in any event there’s one horse that leaps off the page here and that’s the Emmet Mullins trained Zero Ten who loves the course and was a very classy sort over hurdles. We could all be fighting for second, at best, if he converts to chasing.

Good Luck
