DAVY RUSSELL: Leopardstown Sunday

Nice to get a winner on Saturday’s card with The Bosses Oscar in the opener who stayed on really strongly in the final stages to win the maiden hurdle. On now to racing on Sunday where I have five booked rides.

SUNDAY

LEOPARDSTOWN

BIKO (12.45pm)

Needs to show us a bit more here. He made an encouraging debut in a bumper at Punchestown but was a little disappointing first time out this season when down the field at Fairyhouse. Cobbler’s Way was no match for the classy Andy Dufresne in Navan but should find this easier.

BLACK TEARS (1.20pm)

All eyes here are likely to be on Stormy Ireland after her win first time out this season at Punchestown where my ride today Black Tears was five lengths back in second. We’ve got four lengths to find on that form and are also 3lb worse off, so it’s a big ask. Elfile arrives on a hat-trick and is closely matched with My Sister Sarah on Thurles form from last month.

BATTLEOVERDOYEN (1.55pm Neville Hotels Novice Chase)

Has done everything we have asked for in his two starts over fences so far with wins at Galway and in the Florida Pearl at Punchestown. He’s always been a chasing type and remains a very exciting prospect for us, however this is another big step up in class and he’ll need to be at his very best. Minella Indo, Carefully Selected and Champagne Classic can all be given big chances having made winning starts to their chasing careers.

COEUR SUBLIME (2.30pm Matheson Hurdle)

He couldn’t have given me a better feel than when winning the WKD Hurdle at Down Royal last month and we won in grand style. It was a great return from him and he has plenty of class – just as he proved at Cheltenham when runner-up in the Triumph at Cheltenham earlier in the year. Klassical Dream won all four of his starts last season, including the Supreme at the Cheltenham Festival and should be primed for this after his comeback third to Saldier in the Morgiana at Punchestown.

DEFINITE PLAN (3.05pm)

Comes into this in great form and fingers crossed for a big run on his handicap debut. I was aboard him at Fairyhouse last time when second and although we were no match for the winner Party Playboy he put some decent distance between his rivals.

Good Luck
