It was a day of places on Saturday with two seconds and two thirds at Fairyhouse. The action moves on to Naas on Sunday where I have three planned rides on the card. The going is set to be yielding with just a little bit of rain predicted by Met Éireann.
BATTLE OF WILLS (1.10pm)
Makes his jumps debut here and also his stable debut for Gordon (Elliott) having joined the yard from James Tate. I haven’t ridden him in work but he has been doing plenty and should be ready for this. Both his wins on the flat (turf) have come on better ground, so I wouldn’t want to be seeing too much rain overnight. It’s a big field and plenty of dangers including Pepper’n Salt who shaped well on his hurdling debut at Thurles.
He’s been doing really well and as a half brother to Delta Work hopefully he can continue the good work over fences. He certainly did well at Thurles when winning a beginners chase recently. He was staying on really well suggesting that he will get this longer trip. He’s likely to need some improvement though as Carefully Selected will be very hard to stop after his really impressive Grade 3 win at Punchestown last time out when he scored by 24 lengths.
GLENS FINALE (2.40pm)
Another Willie Mullins trained runner looks to dominate this in the shape of The Big Getaway. My fella, Glens Finale, made a winning debut in a bumper at Sligo but was well beaten the last day on his hurdling debut in Leopardstown. He will need to find improvement on that run but hopefully the better ground will suit him. The Mouse Morris trained Foxy Jacks put in a big run at Thurles last time out and will be a danger if finding any improvement on that form.
