DAVY RUSSELL: Navan Sunday

Now for Navan on Sunday where I have five booked rides.

Bolted home for Norman Williamson in a charity race at Punchestown back in November and at face value was a little disappointing on his hurdling debut at Naas when fifth to Next Destination. However, the winner has won twice since and the placed horses have also run well so he was keeping good company. The more experienced pair Dis Donc and The Holy One look the biggest dangers.

DIAMOND CAUCHOIS 2.20pm (Boyne Hurdle)

Absolutely loves the conditions and will get every yard of this trip possibly ideally wanting even further. Was an easy winner here in December before finishing third to me on Presenting Percy in the Galmoy at Gowran. Just four runners and on ratings Bapaume is officially the pick of them. He has plenty of class as he proved when winning the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown last year.

Another four runner contest but there should be plenty of pace on as Drumconnor Lad likes to go from the front. Robin Des Mana had become a little frustrating but is definitely getting the hang of things now. He bolted home by 19 lengths at Punchestown and followed that up by a close second to Goose Man in a decent novice chase at Down Royal.

MOSSBACK 4.00pm (Ten Up Novice Chase)

Mossback ran against Jury Duty and Moulin A Vent the last day at Naas in the Grade 3 Woodlands Park Novice Chase. Mossback was still in with every chance before falling at the last which left the door open for Moulin A Vent to beat Jury Duty. On revised weight terms there might not be much to choose between the trio again but the big danger to all is hat-trick seeking Monbeg Notorious who justified favouritism in grand style to win the prestigious and competitive Thyestes Handicap Chase at Gowran Park.

Very consistent and making her handicap debut over a trip and ground that should suit. She finished seventh in a big field over course and distance back in December. Top weight Peace N’Milan won very well over this trip the last day at Gowran Park and I think looks the biggest danger in a very competitive race.

Enjoy the action!
