HORSE RACING

DAVY RUSSELL: Navan Sunday

Nice to get a winner at Gowran on Saturday with Easywork who quickened up nicely for me on the heavy ground to make a very pleasing first start over hurdles.

Paloma Blue ran a huge race later in the afternoon. We were still leading at the last but just couldn’t match the finish of Getabird.

Later on, Monkshood ran well enough for me in fourth – as I said beforehand it looked a red hot beginners chase and so it proved with Laurina scoring so well.

NAVAN

THATSY (12.30pm)

Two runs and two seconds so far for this one over hurdles. He hasn’t done too much wrong and the horses that have beaten him in two races at Galway have both run well since. You never know what’s lurking in a big field of unexposed horses like this but I am hopeful his experience will stand him in good stead.

FURY ROAD (1.00pm ‘Monksfield’ Novice Hurdle Grade 3)

Has shown plenty of decent form in points and bumpers and was a really impressive winner on his hurdling debut at Down Royal when scoring by 18 lengths. This is obviously a big step up in class for him with dangers including stablemate Abacadabras who won the Grade 3 ‘For Auction’ over the two mile trip last time out. The Noel Meade trained Six Shooter has done nothing wrong and comes into this unbeaten in three starts, I think he is a very nice horse.

I’M A GAME CHANGER (2.00pm)

He ran well for me here on his stable debut over this trip two weeks ago and there was definitely no disgrace in his third to Fakir D’oudairies and Melon who were both very smart hurdlers. He should know plenty more now and will hopefully put a couple of minor jumping errors behind him.

RAVENHILL (2.30pm Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase)

The big race of the day and it looks as competitive as ever. I’m looking forward to the ride on Ravenhill who has been in good form this season and seems to enjoy the challenge of a big field event. After his fifth in the Galway Plate, he was only pipped a head in the Kerry National at Listowel. He’s done amazingly well given he’s had relatively little experience over fences and will hopefully put in another big run.

FROM EDEN (3.00pm)

A winner for me over fences last time out at Fairyhouse and he switches back to hurdles here at a course where he has won over the shorter 2m 4f trip. Likeable character who should hopefully be there or thereabouts.

Good Luck
DAVY
