DAVY RUSSELL: Thurles Sunday

A winner at Navan on Saturday with Floueur in the opener. He travelled well for me and and stayed on nicely to win on stable debut and is now three from three over hurdles – including his two wins in France. Let’s hope he can go on to be as good as some of the other previous winners of this race.

The ground shouldn’t be too bad at Thurles – I’ve said it before in my blog that there isn’t anywhere that drains better and the forecast is currently yielding to soft.

Anyway, I’ve got two rides on what looks a really good card…

SUNDAY

THURLES

FESTIVAL D’EX (1.35pm)

Only the seven runners in the novice hurdle, but it looks a really quality affair. If you just looked at the runners, you’d have thought it was a graded race. I’m looking forward to riding Festival D’ex for Gordon (Elliot) who has won his bumper and his maiden hurdle. This is another step up though and he’s in against some really smart types. My fella won nicely at Navan the last day and this step up in trip should suit him. You have to respect Monkfish and French Dynamite, while Gordon’s other runner Run Wild Fred is no slouch either.

TINTANGLE (3.20)

My final ride of the weekend is Tintangle in the mares’ novice chase. She’s a quality mare who is bidding to bounce back from her fall behind Faugheen the last day. I’ve never actually ridden her in a race before, but I have sat on her at home and she is one to look forward to. I’m hoping she can be competitive back against her own sex, although the Mullins family look to hold the aces!

Good Luck
DAVY
