DAVY RUSSELL: Weekend Racing Preview
Only a brief update this week. There are under two weeks to go until this year’s Cheltenham Festival and my head is full of cha-cha-cha rather than Cha-Cha-Cheltenham! That’s one of my two dances this week ahead of the quarter-final stages of Dancing With The Stars, the other dance being the Salsa writes DAVY RUSSELL.
This week there is one team dance where the six of us that remain split into two groups and then you have the other dance on your own. In short, we are at the business end of this thing… no hiding place now! In Grand National terms we are definitely approaching Bechers for the second time!
Dancing With The Stars continues on RTE on Sunday
I’m flying over to England on Tuesday to do some filming for Star Sports ahead of Cheltenham. Hope you look forward to seeing and reading my thoughts on four of the best days racing in the calendar.
I’ve worked with Harry (Skelton) on the PDF stats guide to the Festival. Get our thoughts on all the big races together with stats and trends pointers.

This weekend’s stuff is pretty low key as you might imagine, just a couple of decent races in Navan (weather permitting) …
SATURDAY
NAVAN 7.30am INSPECTION
3.48pm Flyingbolt Novice Chase (Grade 3) 2m

Only the four runners in this with SPILLANE’S TOWER and BLOOD DESTINY locking horns again. The pair met in Punchestown back in January with JP’s lad coming out on top giving Blood Destiny 4lbs. Neither have run since but I reckon the form will be reversed this time with another 3lbs swing. Blood Destiny had previously beaten Heart Wood in Naas and that fella bolted up at the DRF. I’d say the 7lbs would be enough to swing it Blood Destiny’s way.
4.23pm BoyleSports Webster Cup Chase (Grade 2) 2m 4 1/2f

Another small field where Gordon sends out ASH TREE MEADOW again after finishing fourth over two miles last weekend. This trip will definitely be more to his liking but whether he can see off JOURNEY WITH ME remains to be seen. On ratings he’s a hell of a chance off these weights, but Henry De Bromhead’s lad is good on his day. We’ve not seen him since he fell in the Grade One in Punchestown last April, but he’s plenty of talent. There won’t be much between them I’d say, narrow preference for Journey With Me.
Good Luck
Davy
